After more than 20 years I decided it was time to remove my wood shake roof and replace it with CertainTeed Presidential TL Solaris asphalt shingles. I contacted several Roofing contractors for quotes and information on their Company. I met with Issac Salem with Equinox Roofing Solutions in Walnut Creek and was immediately impressed. Issac was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and even took me to see a couple of jobs Equinox was in process with nearby in my neighborhood. Issac worked up an estimate that included the roof and some wood trim that needed care. Issac’s proposal was very detailed and specific as to the materials and the overall scope of the project Once we agreed, Issac started the process of the job. Issac also kept me up to date on this process. Once the work began with the demolition, I met the Equinox crew and immediately saw that they were very well trained and conducted themselves in a diligent workmanlike manner. Each of them demonstrated their job knowledge and knew exactly what they were doing. They arrived on time and cleaned up every day. I was and am very impressed with the crew. As the job progressed, Issac kept me informed as to the status of process daily. I found that his word is as good as gold and completed the job with everything Issac had promised fulfilled. The completed roof is beautiful and I enthusiastically recommend Equinox Roofing Solutions and Issac Salem without hesitation.

Getting a new roof is a pretty big investment, so I got a few estimates before deciding on Equinox. Isaac took his time explaining everything and didn’t make me feel pressured at all. He was easy to reach, answered all my questions, and kept me updated while the work was going on. The crew did a really good job and were careful around the plants and everything outside the house. They also cleaned up really well after finishing and made sure there weren’t nails left all over the place. The new downspouts and gutter caps came out great too. Overall, I’m really happy with how the roof turned out and glad I went with Equinox.

From start to finish, Equinox Roofing was an absolute pleasure to work with. They came out for a free estimate and spent a great deal of time walking us through the entire reroofing process without any pressure. The communication was fantastic throughout the project, and our project manager was incredibly responsive to all our questions. They worked efficiently and what really stood out to us was how clean they kept the area around the house; at the end of each day, everything was picked up. The project moved along smoothly and was completed within the timeframe we were given. The finished result looks absolutely fantastic, and we are thrilled with the quality. For a full roof replacement, the pricing felt very fair for the level of quality and service we received. We are so glad we chose Equinox Roofing and highly recommend them to anyone needing a new roof .

We recently replaced our entire roof after 30+ years, and we're so glad we went with Equinox. The entire experience was really fantastic from beginning to end. We obtained 5 quotes from various local roofers, and the quote from Equinox came in right in the middle The reasons we decided to work with Equinox were many, but really started from the original meeting with Eli, and the time he spend talking to my husband. He was thorough and easy to talk to.The specifics of the cost estimates he laid out were clear, the ease of scheduling, and the clear and constant communication of the process, and approval of any extra cost/change orders, and more, were all smooth. The whole process only took three days. The crew was here and ready to work each day right when they said they'd be here. Eli was fantastic to work with! We had a great experience, and recommend Equinox overall.

Persistent winter ice damming created major water backup issues down along the roof valleys. Installing thick waterproof ice and water shield membranes prevented moisture intrusion.

Our team focuses on understanding the building before recommending a solution. We consider roof slope, drainage, ventilation, existing materials, previous improvements, and architectural style so the roofing system fits the property rather than following a generic template.
Whether we are working with a low-slope mid-century home, a traditional pitched-roof residence, or a more complex property, our goal is to provide clear guidance, appropriate material options, and careful workmanship throughout the project.
Equinox Roofing helps Mountain View property owners make informed roofing decisions with an approach centered on durability, proper system design, and long-term performance.

Why Mountain View Property Owners ChooseEquinox Roofing

A successful roofing project depends on more than choosing a material. Equinox Roofing focuses on planning, communication, and installation details that help each roofing system fit the building and perform as intended.

Property-First Recommendations

We evaluate the roof design, building condition, and intended use before recommending a system, helping avoid one-size-fits-all solutions.

Experience With Varied Roof Types

From conventional pitched roofs to low-slope and mid-century configurations, we adapt our approach to the specific structure rather than forcing the same method onto every property.

Clear Material Guidance

Attention To System Details

Choosing the Right Roofing System | Equinox Roofing Mountain View

Roofing Options

Choosing the Right Roofing System for Mountain View Homes

Mountain View properties range from traditional pitched-roof homes to modern residences and distinctive mid-century buildings. The right roofing system should work with the roof’s geometry, structural characteristics, energy goals, and architectural style not simply match a popular material.

Architectural Shingles

Flexible design for traditional homes. Architectural shingles provide dimensional texture and a wide range of finishes, making them well suited to many established Mountain View residences with conventional roof slopes.

Standing Seam Metal

Clean lines for contemporary properties. Metal roofing can complement modern architecture while offering a durable, streamlined surface for homeowners interested in long-term performance and a distinctive exterior appearance.

Clay & Concrete Tile

Character for architectural homes. Tile can work well on homes where texture and roof profile are important design elements. Structural suitability and roof configuration should be reviewed before selecting heavier roofing materials.

Single-Ply Membrane Systems

Designed for low-slope rooflines. Certain mid-century and modern properties require roofing systems specifically engineered for shallow slopes. Membrane systems can provide continuous coverage where traditional steep-slope materials may not be appropriate.

Composite Roofing

Classic appearance with modern construction. Composite roofing can reproduce the appearance of traditional materials while offering homeowners different choices in weight, upkeep, and design flexibility.

Cool Roofing Options

Consider solar heat performance. Reflective roofing products can help reduce the amount of solar heat absorbed by the roof surface, making energy performance another useful factor when comparing materials.

Insulation-Compatible Roof Assemblies

Improve the entire roof system. For certain low-slope and open-beam homes, roofing work can be an opportunity to evaluate how insulation integrates with the roof assembly and the home's comfort goals.

Solar-Ready Roofing Planning

Prepare for future energy upgrades. If solar installation is planned, coordinating roof condition, material lifespan, penetrations, and panel placement beforehand can help avoid unnecessary future roofing work.

One of these on your roof doesn't automatically mean replacement. Half of what we find is a repair, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a roof you don't need yet.

Roofing for Mountain View’s Mid-Century & Low-Slope Homes

Mountain View is known for distinctive mid-century neighborhoods where roof design is an integral part of the home's architecture.

Book an inspection

Mountain View is known for distinctive mid-century neighborhoods where roof design is an integral part of the home's architecture. Properties in areas such as Monta Loma often feature broad roof planes, shallow pitches, exposed structural elements, and layouts that require a different roofing strategy from a conventional steep-slope house.

Roofing Systems Designed for Shallow Rooflines

Low-slope roofs need materials specifically suited to limited pitch. Instead of relying on traditional overlapping roofing products, these homes may require continuous membrane systems that provide effective coverage across broad, nearly flat roof surfaces.

Selecting the correct system depends on the roof's existing construction, slope, penetrations, and drainage layout. These factors should be evaluated together before deciding how the roof will be upgraded.

Managing Water Across Broad Roof Areas

On a low-slope property, water movement becomes especially important. Drains, scuppers, gutters, roof edges, and transitions must work together to direct rainfall away from the structure.

Careful planning around these components can help reduce areas where water might collect and improve the overall function of the roofing assembly.

Equinox Roofing works to balance modern roofing performance with the architectural character of Mountain View's mid-century properties. Equinox Roofing

Working With Open-Beam Construction

Some Mountain View mid-century homes feature exposed ceilings or open-beam designs where conventional attic space may be limited or nonexistent. This can change how insulation and roofing components are incorporated into the project.

A roofing upgrade provides an opportunity to consider how the complete assembly can support both weather protection and the home's interior comfort without compromising its distinctive design.

Integrating Skylights & Roof Penetrations

Skylights, vents, plumbing penetrations, and other rooftop features require precise detailing on shallow-pitch roofs. Because these components interrupt the continuous roofing surface, proper flashing and integration are essential parts of the installation strategy.

Respecting Mid-Century Architecture

Updating an older roofing system should not mean losing the clean lines and visual simplicity that make these homes distinctive. Material selection, edge detailing, roof thickness, and visible transitions can all influence the finished appearance.

Planning for the Home's Next Chapter

Many homes from this era have undergone additions, solar installations, skylight upgrades, or previous reroofing over the decades. These modifications can create conditions that were not part of the original design.

Understanding how those changes interact with the current roof helps create a more complete plan for future performance.

Our Process | Equinox Roofing

Property Solutions

Roofing Solutions for Mountain View’s Changing Properties

Established Homes

Update aging roof components carefully. Older homes in areas such as Old Mountain View and Shoreline West may include previous reroofing, dated flashing, or modified roof sections. We evaluate these conditions before recommending the next roofing approach.

Solar & Roof Coordination

Plan roofing and energy upgrades together. When solar panels are existing or planned, coordinating roof condition, system lifespan, penetrations, and installation timing can help avoid unnecessary removal or repeated work later.

Remodels & Home Additions

Connect new and existing rooflines. Additions can introduce different slopes, elevations, and drainage paths. Careful detailing at transitions helps the original structure and newer roof sections function as one coordinated system.

Roofing FAQs | Equinox Roofing Mountain View

Mountain View · Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The things Mountain View homeowners ask us most, before they book an inspection.

Still not sure? Talk to an estimator who works on Mountain View roofs every week. No script, no pressure. Call (800) 880-6020
Can a Mountain View reroof qualify for a same-day building permit?

Yes, certain reroofing projects on existing single-family homes and duplexes can qualify for Mountain View’s Same-Day Permit process when they meet the city’s requirements and do not involve structural roof changes, new skylights, or other disqualifying work. Mountain View Development Permits

What happens if I want to switch to a much heavier roofing material?

If the new roofing material has a total weight exceeding 7.5 pounds per square foot, the project does not qualify for Mountain View’s standard same-day reroof permit route. The property may require a more detailed building review before installation. Mountain View Development Permits

Can I add skylights while reroofing my Mountain View home?

You can combine skylight work with a roofing project, but adding skylights means the project is not eligible for the city’s basic same-day reroof permit. Additional review is required because the work changes the roof assembly. Mountain View Development Permits

Can reroofing be included with a home addition or remodel?

Yes, but it follows a different permitting path. Mountain View does not treat a new roof associated with an addition or remodel as a simple same-day reroof project. Additions and remodels can require broader building review and, depending on the property and scope, additional permits. Mountain View Development Permits

What roofing considerations are important for Monta Loma and other mid-century homes?

Low-slope and open-beam homes can require additional attention to membrane selection, drainage, insulation, roof penetrations, and transitions. The appropriate roofing assembly should reflect the actual roof configuration rather than using a system intended for a conventional steep-slope home.

Should solar installation and roofing work be planned together?

Whenever possible, yes. Coordinating the condition and expected lifespan of the roof with solar installation can help avoid removing panels again for major roofing work shortly afterward. Mountain View processes qualifying single-family solar projects through SolarAPP+, while other solar installations follow the city’s regular permitting system. Mountain View Development Permits

Can a Mountain View homeowner pull their own roofing permit?

For single-family homes and duplexes, a property owner may elect to sign the permit as an owner-builder. Otherwise, building permits generally must be signed by an appropriately licensed California contractor. Mountain View Development Permits

How should roofing be planned on a home with no traditional attic?

Some mid-century Mountain View homes use open-beam or vaulted construction with little or no conventional attic space. In these cases, insulation, ventilation strategy, roofing thickness, and roof assembly design may need to be considered differently from a typical attic-based house.

Are reroofing permits available for multi-family properties in Mountain View?

Mountain View provides a multi-family reroofing permit category, and its online permit system currently allows multi-family use for reroofing. Because multi-family properties differ from single-family homes in scope and ownership structure, the project requirements should be confirmed before work begins. Epermits

What should homeowners consider when a roof has several additions or different slopes?

Homes that have been expanded over time may contain multiple roof elevations, pitches, drainage paths, and material transitions. These areas should be evaluated together so flashing, valleys, roof-to-wall connections, and water movement work as a coordinated system rather than as separate roof sections.
